Youth Services Librarian, Full-Time - Youth Services Department

Are you friendly, creative and love working with children and teens? We are seeking an individual who loves working with diverse families, has excellent customer service and outreach skills, and thrives in a flexible environment.  South Holland Public Library is the place for you!

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, prepares and presents programs for infants through 12th grade.
  • Shares responsibility for collection development, selection and weeding of all materials in the Youth Services Department
  • Shares responsibility for arranging and conducting group visits to the library, school visits and outreach to the community.
  • Regularly scheduled on the Youth Service Desk and provides courteous and accurate service to all users.
  • Plans and develops bulletin boards, decorations and displays in the Youth Services Department
  • May be assigned responsibility for general operations of the department in absence of the Head of Youth Services.

Necessary Knowledge

  • Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
  • Knowledge of bibliographic and reference tools and resources.
  • Knowledge of computer, internet and phone applications.
  • Ability to create a good rapport with youth, teens and families.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.

Qualifications

  • MLS from an ALA accredited program or degree expected in six (6) months of hire.
  • Minimum of one (1) year professional experience working with children and teens.
  • Library experience preferred but not required.
  • Reads, understands, writes legibly and speaks articulately in English.
  • Position requires day, evening and weekend hours.
  • Access to Transportation.

Position is non-exempt full-time at 36 hours per week. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off and IMRF.

Salary starting at $25.00 per hour.

CIRCULATION CLERK, PART-TIME - CIRCULATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The South Holland Public Library is seeking a friendly enthusiastic, hard-working individual with great customer service skills to work in our fast-paced team environment.
This position is part-time with an average work week of 18 hours. This includes days, evenings and Saturdays.  

Responsibilities

  • Staffs the Circulation Desk 75-100% of the scheduled work time while providing outstanding customer service to our users.
  • Checks materials in and out, issues library cards, collects fines, renews, retrieves and shelves materials.
  • Performs all automated circulation functions accurately and efficiently.
  • Handles routine issues and answers a variety of questions.

Necessary Knowledge

  • Ability to learn computerized circulations functions and procedures.
  • Ability to work courteously with the public and exercise discretion.
  • Possess basic mouse and keyboard skills.
  • Ability to answer the phone.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and make change.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time, reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 20 pounds and access library areas and materials.

Qualifications

  • Flexible and reliable schedule
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer service skills required.
  • Library experience preferred.
  • Spanish language skills a bonus
  • Must have access to transportation.

Position is part-time, up to 18 hours per week. Salary starting at $13 per hour.
